Mathematics through ICT: ICT based teaching and learning is one of the most important aspects of teaching-learning process particularly in this era of fast and technically advancing technology. Teaching and learning without the use of ICT can be very redundant since it’s the need of the generation. So on 5th November I taught class V mathematics on Experimental probability and theoretical probability. Materials used were laptop, projector and internet. Students seems to be active when the ICT facilities were used to teach the lesson. Children interaction variation increases as well. This is the one way to boost their energy or arouse their curiosity. Another thing is that it saves time and delivery part becomes effective. When ICT facilities is not made use of it, we need to write on chart or on board while delivering the lesson which time consuming. When the students were actively participate in learning means that it is easy to achieve the objectives which true to my knowledge. The learners become inactive and un-participatory without the integration of ICT in the lessons apart from many more. How did we know that? When I was delivering the lesson, in the middle of my lesson, electricity went off which made handicap as well children became passive in learning. After few minutes later electricity favored me and I could continue the lesson with their much interest and active participation. Activities assigned to them were solved correctly which means objectives set were fulfilled. To conclude, ICT plays a pivotal role in transforming educational practices. ICT not only helps to translate theory to pragmatic experience, but also makes learning more fun and creative. It has helped both the teacher and the learner to carry out their tasks conveniently and efficiently.

Subject: Mathematics, Topic: Transformation, Sub-topic: Translation or slides Dated on 8/10/2021 I have taught class V children on translation using ICT facilities such as internet, projector, laptop, video clip and worksheets (to assess their learning). I personally felt that children were excited whenever they are taken to smart technology room for teaching and learning. This is because they are taken through different teaching strategies and also different learning abilities are taken good care of it. Usually children are inactive especially in the afternoon classes but they were not, they were actively participating in the class, this is the impact of ICT integrated with the daily lesson. About 95 percent of the children could solve the task assigned to them which indicates that they have learn a lot when ICT is integrated. Usually these same students were not able to solve the questions when the ICT is not integrated. This is what I have found out the differences that is made by ICT facilities. Students smiled and felt happy to watch video, it was interesting and new to them. Unnecessary noise was not there other than discussing and pinpointing to the shapes that are translated. I though the videos allowed them to recapitulate their prior knowledge. It was as if like they were fixing the broken part of the concept. Further, I found students were looking at the video very carefully. They were able to catch on how to translate the shapes as per the instructions or description. I saw their eyes moving as the shapes translate in the video which states that they were very curious. After the video I let them do activity which demanded to translate the shapes as per the descriptions. To my surprise almost all the students could solve the questions. I think ICT can bring lots of changes in learning, especially in gaining attention. I too realized that old-school visual aids such as chalkboards and hand-drawn illustrations was of time-consuming while video presentation was of easy and faster mode to deliver the lesson. Thanks

Class: V Subject: Mathematics Topic: Volume On 2nd September, I taught a lesson on ‘Volume’ to class V students using ICT facilities like laptop, projector, and internet. During the lesson, I have used power point presentation and short video tutorial. Alongside, I made students to have hand on experience to use cubes to build the structure by looking at diagrams; I have taught them to find volume in two different ways that is by counting the cubes that can exactly fit in a rectangular prism and other way is by using the formula. I found children were actively participating during the lesson. I found the differences between plan power point preparation and ppt prepared in 3-D. Student’s understandings is much better when taught through 3-D power point presentation. They enjoy the lesson because 3-D visual presentation makes them to understand better. Any structure build out of using cubes, children could easily solve the problems. Earlier I have used only worksheet and some diagrams drawn on the chart to teach about the same, at that time some students had difficulties solving the problems related it. Children could derive the formula to find out the volume of 3-D shape when they were taken through 3-D power point presentation. The impact on learners is much better when the ICT facilities are used in better and effective ways. To conclude, ICT plays important role in transforming educational practices. ICT not only helps to translate theory to pragmatic experience, but also makes learning more fun and creative. Thanks

Science lesson with ICT Integration: (Reflection)

Science lesson with ICT Integration: (Reflection) Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have gained a swift momentum on teachers and students teaching learning process and has provided a significant research area for many scholars in and around the world. ICT has significantly changed the face of education. Thus Bhutanese educational system has entered in the early phase of Information and Communication Technologies adoption. The lesson I taught was on “Separating Mixture” (Miscible and Immiscible liquids) in class VI. On 9th August 2021, I taught the topic through ICT facilities. While through the lesson, I have used video tutorial and PowerPoint presentation form my side. On the other hand, I too made students to explore themselves and prepare their own group PowerPoint presentation and get feedbacks from their friends and teachers. Till date though I used ICT in my lesson, it has very limited opportunities for students to use hand on experience as the presentations and videos were mostly prepared by myself as teacher centered but this time I made students to have hand on experience to use the facilities to innovate and share within themselves. So after having used two different modalities, I would like to reflect on the achievements and draw backs for future reference.
While through student centered ICT integrated teaching-learning process, students were found very active and energetic throughout the lesson. They are overwhelmed when they see their own Power Point presentation and they too feels that they were doing small research in their own way while they were doing Google search. It also made them to have extensive discussion on a question as they finds lots of related responses by different authors. Further, while we were using Wechat (through mobile) to share the information that each group has noted with others and started commenting, students were very active to read and comment which made them to learn better. They too realized that mobile phones were not just to call and chat but can be used for good purposes of teaching and learning process. They promised to use for such activities here after.
The classroom was lively as students completely engaged in searching for the lesson concept in gist. Usually, I had to use energizer clips in between the lesson to break boredom to increase the learning efficiency but in this lesson it was out of the scene. But despite having uncountable benefits of ICT in teaching learning process that can be done through mobile, the policy of not letting students to bring and use mobile phones in the schools is the big issues. Therefore, I would like to recommend to our educational stake holders to look into the matter for the wellbeing of our students to have better learning. Video Lesson screen shots

PPT on Micro-organism

Lesson with and without ICT Integration:

A study conducted by Blanskat, Blamire, Kefala (2006) in national, international, and European schools  to draw evidence regarding the advantages of ICT in school learning achievement, it has been  found out that ICT has a positive impact on students’ performances. In this context, the Ministry of Education, in partnership with colleges of education is doing all possible to help us instructors understand the significance of ICT in modern teaching and learning. As a result, as teachers, we must provide a platform for our pupils to investigate and adapt to the demands of the environment.

In class VI, I delivered a lesson on “Diseases Caused by Microorganism.” On the 31st of May, I taught the topic without incorporating ICT; however, on the 6th of June, after receiving a video tutorial topic on the same topic, I created a power-point presentation using ICT and also re-taught the topic as an extended lesson by downloading a YouTube presentation on the same topic. I discovered that ICT integration in lessons made a big difference.

So, after teaching the same topic in two different ways (traditional and ICT-integrated), I'd like to reflect on the benefits and drawbacks of employing ICT modalities for future reference. When I compared the traditional way of teachers teaching with hard copy teaching-learning aids, I could detect a significant difference in the children's learning. Students were observed to be very active and lively during the lesson as a result of the ICT integrated teaching. When they watch the powerpoint presentation on how micro-organism diseases are spread, as well as a brief video instruction on YouTube, they are blown away. The classroom was buzzing as students saw a film demonstrating on how micro-organism causes diseases, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them. When activity instructions were on the screen, I used energizer clips in between the lessons to break their monotony and boost their learning efficiency. As previously said, it not only aided in enhancing children's curiosity during teaching, but it also helped to lessen workload and the hear-talk process.

Despite the numerous advantages of incorporating ICT into the teaching-learning process, limited resources, electronic transit from one classroom to another after each session, and a lack of IT competence are some of the minor problems that I face in schools. Regardless, I began to believe that ICT plays a critical function in making our instruction more effective and achievable.

 How ICT change our life?

Our society has become more accustomed to having the benefits of ICT, which has changed the way people live and interact with one another. People have incorporated ICT into their everyday lives, such as using cell phones to make calls, withdrawing money out of the ATM and using computers to browse the internet.
